Back in the winter of 1995, our band was working on its third demo, Pelo Negro—Spanish for “black hair.” The undeniable highlight of that tape was a song called Pelly, a dark story about a young woman struggling to find her place in the world.
Despite its heavy theme, Pelly quickly became a pop-punk anthem. It captured the spirit of what we were aiming for back then: moving from our grunge and alternative rock roots into a more melodic, hook-driven pop-punk sound.
Fast-forward almost 30 years. Although Pelly stayed with us for a long time, we’ve now reworked it for our new project. The lyrics have been reshaped—because let’s be honest, at 50 you see things differently than at 20. What we wanted this time was a song that speaks in a timeless way about people disappearing from your life. That sense of fading, of being blurred out, of balancing and moving on—that has become the heart of the Phading.
We’re thrilled to have given this song new life. And we’re even more excited to announce that Phading will be released as the lead single (that will drop on September 5th) of our upcoming album, Piece of Cake.
Sometimes songs grow up with you. And sometimes, they pull you right back to who you were when you first wrote them. Phading is both.
